That Wacky Left

Why The Left eventually turns on it's own country.

The ideas of The Left ultimately lead to a totalitarian state. There is no point short of this eventuality at which it is willing to stop. At first, in mild doses, the people can be brought along because the ideas sound good and compassionate. But, as the demands begin to get ridiculous, the people begin to back off their support. Then, the tactics become odious and the people back off further. Then, the demands become noxious to all and The Left suffers defeat after defeat.

Through this process, The Left goes from support for the public that supports its ideas, to disillusionment with the public for its cooling ardor, to contempt for the public for its obtuse refusal to see its great wisdom. Finally, with complete rejection, the Left's feeling for the public turns to seething hatred as of a lover scorned. In a nation that is "by the people, of the people and for the people", this hatred for the people easily transforms into hatred for the nation.

The interesting thing is, throughout this process, the initial love for a nation that allows them the freedom to put their ideas into practice is thought to remain. As their hatred grows, they will swear love and fealty. They actually believe they still love the country; just that it has gone astray and they only desire to bring it back on course, out of love.

This brings to mind the man who beats and belittles his wife - out of love. He only wishes to bring about her improvement. Even as he stands over her bloody corpse, he proclaims his love. This is the same insanity personified in the pathetic Left.
