Media CensorshipPosted by Doug W on October 22, 2004 at 23:25:16: A radical Left-wing kook friend of mine was outraged that America suppressed al Jazeera broadcasting in Iraq on the grounds that we were trying to create a democracy there and the act of government censorship of the press was anathema to democratic principles. This same person expressed to me that, "We need some control over the public airwaves", in defense of the attacks of Sinclair Broadcasting's airing of "Stolen Valor." Does anybody out there share these conflicting views? Can anyone offer a rational explanation why enemy broadcasting in a war zone should be protected, but an opinion that is detrimental to a Democrat candidate in a political contest in a free society should be banned?

This is not really a public service announcement. If they do so it would seem fair. But they won't. So I am doing what I can. I will take note of their sponsors and act accordingly. That seems like democracy to me. Regarding your comparisons to the shutting down of Al Jazara (spelling) in Iraq. I do not see the comparison. You should do what you have to when you need to protect your troops fighting in a war zone.
