Dealing With The Vicious Left

It happens unexpectedly, at a family gathering, at work, among a bunch of friends. It’s shocking and leaves you nonplussed and bewildered. The events of September 11th, 2001 come up and someone you know or a friend of a friend, or a new face in the group vomits up some political filth. It will start with an accusation of “blood for oil”, then, President Bush is branded a Nazi; John Ashcroft is called a Fascist. The United States is labeled, the worst terrorist state on Earth. All Middle-East strife is Israel’s fault. Israel is a terrorist, apartheid state. Sharon is a murderer. The Jews who worked at the Trade Center all stayed home on 9/11.
The railing rat-a-tat-tat of vitriolic “facts” are contrary to everything that common sense and a lifetime of experience lead you to know to be true.
Now, I have dealt with these wackos for years and know well how to do so. But, what words of advice can be imparted to an average patriotic American for dealing with such a situation? As the looney Left gets ever more vicious and in-your-face with defeat after defeat at the polls and repudiation of all their failed predictions of disaster in Afghanistan and Iraq, some understanding of the tactics they use, ever more vehemently, to advance their illusion of an evil America and its surrogate in the Middle East might be useful.
The most important thing to understand when confronting these automatons is that this is a cult. You cannot persuade these people that they are misguided. Their entire personality is invested in these beliefs. They need to feel that they are in possession of knowledge and insight of which lesser people are unaware. This convinces them that they are members of an elite class. Those who dissent are pigeonholed as simplistic, fundamentalists, hicks, rubes and the brainwashed, anti-intellectual, unwashed masses.
These nutcases swim in a sea of illusion that has been manufactured to repel any contrary facts. This world is constructed and reinforced by a massive network of interlinked information that they are compelled to seek out through books, foundations and websites. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS ON ANYTHING, OR TO SHOW THEM THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS! It is a complete waste of time. They must have this feeling of superiority to maintain their tremendous egos. You will notice the snide arrogance and condescension when they accuse you of being naïve or misinformed when you completely tear apart their stupid little world with cogent refutations. When they have no readily available counter-argument or sound-bite from their vast store of factoids, and they see the dead-end into which your words are leading them, they will begin to shout over you. THEY WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO COMPLETE THAT SENTENCE! Do not be frustrated. You have won. Just wait until they are quiet and say, “By refusing to allow me to finish my point, I am considering it won.” Ha ha! Do not allow any further discussion. If it ever comes up again, say, “You have already conceded that point! Don’t you remember?” Ha ha.
Next, how do you refute the interminable stream of “facts” that prove that America, western civilization, corporations and the Jews are responsible for all the problems in the world today? You don’t! For years I played this game. Facts would be thrown at me. I would spend hours researching them and then refute them. In response, all of my hard work would be dismissed as nitpicking, or, “reasonable people can disagree”, or the source is tainted as rightwing, or some absurd semantic argument would ensue based on some single word picked out at random. Then, another false fact would be presented. Their game here is to keep you researching forever. Now, I just say, “Prove it!” Never waste your time researching their wild figures, quotes, statistics and assertions. Put it on them to present the evidence. Write down what they say. This really shakes them. Ask them for their source. If they can’t provide it, dismiss that part of their argument. Tell them to get back to you later with some sourcing. If they try, they will discover that their source was some bloviating idiot or that it is compromised in some way. Each time that they come back with the same argument, just remind them that you already asked them to justify it and they failed. You will have to be patient, and even laugh out loud because they are utterly incapable of giving up a disproved assertion.
Some facts that put America and the Jews in a bad light are true. Human beings are flawed creatures. Those who rise to positions of power are prone to huge egos and a belief that they are superior to the common man. They are, by nature, people who see it as their right to wield power over their fellows. At the same time, as flawed humans, they are subject to the vices of greed, envy, pride and anger. They are also prone, as any others, to make mistakes. THIS IS TRUE OF ALL LEADERS OF ALL NATIONS THROUGHOUT HISTORY! It is only American or Israeli leaders, constrained by the electorate to do real harm, where these failings are decried by the monomaniacal Left.
The interactions of nations are complex, consisting of national interests, economic considerations, hasty alliances, personalities and natural laws beyond human control or understanding. Rules of nature apply. More advanced civilizations displace primitive ones; sometimes cruelly. In the course of history, all of these elements, and more, come into play to determine the events and outcomes of any particular moment in time. Wars, genocides, famines, revolutions and the current adverse conditions of any people have many authors, rooted in the tragedy of human nature. It is the trick of the Leftist conspiracy cultists to weave all of these elements together in such a way as to place the blame ALWAYS at the feet of America and the Jews.
Normal people know that America has been the source of more good in the world than any other nation in history. How do the facts, as presented by the Left always seem to irrevocably point to this great nation as the locus of all evil?
Think of history as a vast store of events, quotes, statistics, news stories, opinions, personal accounts, dates, books, columns and perceptions; millions and billions of these. The trick used by the cult of the Left is to cherry pick from this vast milieu, certain carefully selected elements, and then to piece them together in such a way as to paint an invidious portrait of America and Jews. When you have this many puzzle pieces; this many variegated parts with which to compose your mosaic, through selection and arrangement, you can paint any picture you wish. That is the art of the maniacal nihilists of the Left and their mentally impaired devotees. An entire history of America has been written using this technique. It is taught in many of our government schools.
This selecting of events, quotes, statistics etc, to paint a deceptive picture is not enough for the Left, however. All of these elements are twisted and misconstrued to make it look even worse. For, above all else the Left LIES!
So, when the adherents of this nihilistic cult begin their rants, it is utterly useless to argue. Ridicule is fun. I like to say something along the lines of, “If the CIA is to blame for all evil in the world, how do you explain Genghis Khan?” Ha ha. And, “If the CIA is so successfully Machiavellian in manipulating the entire world, how were they wrong on Saddam’s WMD?”
The point is, we cannot convert or convince these deranged creatures. We can only defeat them. A few years ago, there were people who believed that blacks were some kind of inferior race, unfit to mingle with the whites. You could not convince them otherwise. They had power. They had arguments. They had the Supreme Court and the Democrat Party. They were defeated because they were wrong! Now, they are on the ash heap of history. The few adherents of this arcane belief parade about pathetically in their robes protected by the miscreants of the ACLU and are laughed at. Someday soon, your tormentors of the Left will be condemned to a similar ignominious existence, right down to having the ACLU as their only champions. Get a jump on history and laugh at them now. Laugh right in their arrogant, supercilious little faces.
