Loathsome Use of Stats Award - John McLaughlin
September 13, 2006
By Douglas B. Wakeman
I saw this on Sunday. On the fringe TV show, "The McLaughlin Group", the host John McLaughlin, out of the blue, related to nothing being discussed, blurted out some Iraq death statistics:
"Okay, human toll: U.S. military dead in Iraq, including suicides, 2,662; U.S. military amputeed, wounded, severely injured, injured, mentally ill, all now out of Iraq, 63,500; Iraqi civilians dead, 130,890."
This is bizarre! Didn't anyone notice a glaring omission in these stats??? How about enemy killed??? Do you mean we have killed all of these civilians without harming a thread in a turban of one single Islamo-Nazi? Gosh, I guess Rumsfeld should go!
Or, maybe this fucking
imbecile McLaughlin just said civilians when he meant terrorists. Yeah,
that must be it. After all, a big shot, American Sunday morning "news"
commentator couldn't possibly be a subversive propagandist for the enemy, now
could he?
